The Glenlivet is a renowned Scottish whisky producer that has been in operation since 1824. The distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, which is known for producing some of the finest whiskies in the world. The Glenlivet 12-year-old is a single malt whisky that is aged for a minimum of 12 years in oak casks. This gives the whisky a smooth and mellow taste, with notes of vanilla, honey, and fruit.

The Illicit Still is a special edition release from The Glenlivet that pays homage to the distillery's history. In the early 1800s, whisky production was illegal in Scotland, and many distillers operated in secret. The Glenlivet was one of these distilleries, and the Illicit Still is named after the hidden stills that were used to produce whisky during this time. This special edition whisky is aged for 12 years and has a rich, fruity flavor with hints of spice and oak.

The Glenlivet is known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The distillery uses only the finest ingredients and traditional methods to produce its whiskies. The water used in the production process comes from the Josie's Well, which is located on the distillery grounds and is known for its purity. The barley used in the production process is also carefully selected to ensure the highest quality.

The Glenlivet produces a range of whiskies, including single malt and blended whiskies. The distillery's signature whisky is The Glenlivet 12-year-old, which is a smooth and mellow whisky with a fruity flavor. The Glenlivet also produces a range of other whiskies, including The Glenlivet 18-year-old, The Glenlivet 21-year-old, and The Glenlivet Nadurra.

In addition to its whiskies, The Glenlivet also produces a range of other spirits, including gin and vodka. The distillery's gin is made using a blend of botanicals, including juniper, coriander, and orange peel. The vodka is made using the same high-quality ingredients and traditional methods as the whisky, resulting in a smooth and clean-tasting spirit.

Overall, The Glenlivet is a world-renowned whisky producer that is known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The distillery's whiskies are aged for a minimum of 12 years and have a smooth and mellow taste with notes of fruit, spice, and oak. The Illicit Still is a special edition release that pays homage to the distillery's history and is a must-try for any whisky enthusiast.

George Smith, a man who produced illicit whisky until the Excise Act 1823 was initiated. Once the legislation passed, Smith became the first person in Glenlivet, Scotland to apply for and be granted a license allowing him to legally set up shop. Within a year, he opened The Glenlivet Distillery in Upper Drumin with his youngest son, John Gordon Smith.

Business was booming, so they opened another distillery. Realising the growth of the company they began building one large distillery that could cope with large volumes of production in Minmore. By 1859, production began at the new distillery, and the name of the company was changed to George & J.G. Smith, Ltd.

Although not much has changed over the years with respect to its production process, the company has passed through hands of a number of parent companies before being acquired from Seagrams by Pernod Ricard and Diageo. As part of that acquisition, The Glenlivet was separated from its longtime subsidiary Glen Grant Distillers and made a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pernod Ricard with Glen Grant being further sold to the Campari Group in 2005.The Glenlivet, roughly translated from Gaelic means ‘Valley of the Livet’. It is most notable for its exceptionally smooth taste and finish and is commonly regarded as a perfect dram for the novice drinker.
