Obtained with a selection of the best cuvées, initially intended for the production of their Gavi dei Gavi black label and only in great vintages. This wine, after aging that can last up to ten years, only in steel tanks and on indigenous yeasts, reaches the bottle with that unmistakable intensity and nobility of sensations that only time gives to Great Wines.

Rare and unique wine, to be tasted meditating on the extraordinary taste sensations that bring back to the memory, as in the Proustian 'Recherche', the taste of distant memories: the bouquet that evokes the sea breeze, the minerality of the earth, but also exotic fruits and honey. Only the experience of over a century of production can give this harmony, where power and finesse come together in a splendid balance, bringing us back to nature and the sensations of D'Antan.

La Scola was the first winery established in Gavi in 1919 and not only ranks amongst the top Gavi producers but also one of the most historic white wine producers in Italy. Today, the estate is run by Giorgio Soldati, the founder’s great-grandson, and his daughter, Chiara, who represents the fifth generation. The estate’s 148 acres of vineyards are planted on the hills surrounding the family villa, 30-miles from the Mediterranean. These steep slopes are made up of calcareous-clay and volcanic soils with iron, shot with veins of chalky limestone similar to that found in Champagne and Chablis, giving that characteristic flinty character. With Piedmont’s oldest Cortese vines (60+ years) and decades of pioneering, family winemaking tradition, La Scolca produces spectacular, complex and concentrated age-worthy wines now found on the world’s finest wine lists.

Piemonte (Piedmont) occupies most of northwestern Italy, bordering Switzerland in the north and France in the west and almost reaching the Mediterranean coast. Its capital and largest city is Turin (Torino).

In the wine world, Piemonte is best known for the twin titans of Barolo and Barbaresco, along with other popular red wines made from Barbera and Dolcetto, the white Gavi, and sparkling Asti.

It has more DOCGs (17) and DOCs (42) than any other region (see maps: Asti area, Langhe, Monferrato, and northern), but no IGPs. In 2016, Piemonte produced 2.5 million hl (28.3 million cases) of wine, the majority of it (55%) red and 83% at the DOP level. The region’s primary grape varieties are Barbera (31%), Moscato (22%), Dolcetto (13%), and Nebbiolo (10%).
