Vina Cobos

Viña Cobos is the Argentinian partnership of renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs, along with Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud. Hobbs is known for his wines of Northern California but he always had an interest in Argentina and took on the challenge of crafting world class wines on a level never before seen in Argentina.

In 1988 he started to seek out distinct growing sites in the region of Mendoza. Viña Cobos settled with holdings in Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, two of the most prestigious growing regions, each expressing a distinctly unique terrior. Viña Cobos’s first vintage was produced in 1999 and has only gained notoriety and praise since. Some even hail Hobbs as the pioneer that launched Malbec onto the world stage.


Viña Cobos practices sustainable farming methods, precise vineyard management and a minimal intervention winemaking process. The goal is to produce wines that showcase these unique places with finesse, complexity and authenticity. To do this, the individual vineyards are divided into parcels, which are closely tracked. The grapes are transported to the winery and processed according to their specific origin. This allows for individual assessment and treatment of the grapes to optimise unique characteristics from each vineyard. Delicate handling of the grapes includes gravity flow, to preserve the pips for better fermentation. The wines are then aged in French and American oak barrels adding a subtle balance. Viña Cobos does not filter any wine, preferring the complexity, texture and finish this way.
