Stephane Ogier

The Ogier family, originally from Côte-Rôtie, has been living on the Ampuis property for more than six generations. The family has always practiced polyculture, mainly grapes and apricots, selling their produce to co-operatives. Then in 1983, Michel Ogier marketed a vintage right when the Côte-Rôtie appellation was booming. From this success, Michel stopped selling his grapes and began to fully vinify his vintages. In the 1980s he acquired land located in the north, even though it was not included in the Côte-Rôtie appellation. Michel Ogier is thus one of the first to produce a Vin de Pays cuvée on this terroir.

Stéphane Ogier, Michel’s son, took over in 1997 after five years studying and working in Burgundy. Using the knowledge he gained in some of the largest estates in Burgundy, he began to tame the Syrah and Viognier, the local Rhone grape varieties, like nobody before him. He gives immense respect to the terroir and retains the taste of elegance and finesse, which has become characteristic of his wines. The Ogier family is now a reference in Côte-Rôtie, an ambassador of the appellation. On land or in the glass, Ogier wines have the audacity, character, balance and typicity of Grands Crus. Today, the vines are planted on 27 hectares of granite and shale soil and cultivated sustainably.
